In honor of St Paddy's Day, I had to post a new pic of the Celtic princess mom, Mrs Temperance Goodlady. I don't have any "new new" pics, just ones I hadn't published before. And I'd spend my days in saleyards and pastures with cowboys and drink whiskey at the saloon afterward😆 Just some background on that venture: all laws that apply to cars? They apply to cows too. They're registered, they can get tickets, they can get impounded, they can get seized. And if a cattle truck is pulled over, the driver has to have all the license and registration for each head in his truck. All inspectors (and all lawmen) would do all this work by pen and paper and big registration lookup books. It was super inefficient and generally out of date, and could not receive revenue at the point of contact My company built the systems that were all server/mobile based so law enforcement could look up records on the spot, seize cattle rustlers (yes that's still a thing😅) and take registration money on the spot from a rancher out of compliance rather than seize his cattle which is a hassle. It was probably my most fun company ever.

And my HR lady is excited about my new company, now I have to close some venture capital investors and get going. We'll see... By the way, on TV or on Shark Tank, it's often presented as the founder of a company begging and submitting to the investor "oh please sir, perchance shall you give me money?" But that's not how it is in real life. In real life, venture capital people - especially junior people - must maximize what's called "deal flow". They must see as many start-ups as they can, it's a core metric they're measured on, if their deal flow is low, they're fired. They must beat the street constantly looking for potential deals to invest in and get them in to the VC firm for others to look at. So they're under great pressure to hear me (or anyone with a reasonably feasible proposal) Plus, it's a conversation and a story telling. They're not going to be mean to me or grill me (like you sometimes see on shark tank). I'm telling a story of a possible future vision, and if they can see it my way - believe in my story - then the projections and financials and backup info is somewhat secondary because everyone knows that's a best guess and likely to change anyway. I'm gifting them an opportunity, I'm not subtracting their money, they know that. And I'm not faking them out with a "story". It must be believable and the best way to do that is to tell the truth. The truth sells itself. And my story is my perception of what I think the future truth is - if they believe that truth as well, they'll bet on me, not on what's in my slide deck. Anyway...just some blah blah on entrepreneurship. Is that interesting or boring?

Heading back home now. My VP of HR is stopping by for dinner tonight. I need her for my new company, it's more exactly in her wheelhouse like in a more leadership/director role. Normally HR is sorta behind the scenes, make sure nothing goes wrong and we don't know who you are unless the wheels fall off, then everyone is pissed at you. IT Services is similar in a corporation - you cannot make a mistake and if everything is perfect, no one knows who you are. But the instant it fails in 0.0001% of the time (which it will), everyone is screaming and hates you. So you have 2 states: non-person, or everyone hates😆 But in the new company, I'd need her making HR strategy decisions for the overall purpose of the company. I think she'd like that better. I had exchanged emails with them giving them the overviews, then laid it all out in this first mtg. But they let it be known as I talked, they had done a TON of homework behind the scenes...including pulling in people not in our convo. That's a super good sign, it means they realize "this thing has legs and is golden...get Bob in here, he's the expert on this, he'll want to see this", like that And then at the end, my add-on ask is "if you think it's interesting, I know you know people from (big global VC firm), maybe you could introduce me." But they answered "oh, we were going to ask you if we could. Absolutely." Yay! And ya...I got a funeral to go to tomorrow and another friday😕. Aaaand...I really have to switch some focus onto my conference prep in 2 weeks, that's coming up!
